Area Governors are among the most important officers in Toastmasters International. These officers have generally served as the President or Vice President Education of a Distinguished Club, know the Distinguished Club Program, and are genuinely interested in working with other clubs in their geographic vicinity to help support them and their officers. Area Governors are responsible for visiting their clubs periodically, for sponsoring and hosting four contests during the year, for encouraging and motivating officers and other club members to attend Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI), and whatever else it takes to enhance the value of the Toastmasters program in each club. Oftentimes, Area Governors will do something especially worthy of recognition, so we instituted the "Area Governor of the Month" award to provide this special recognition. My regret is that we can only name one "Area Governor of the Month" each month -- they are all terrific!

If you think that your own Area Governor should be considered for this award in the upcoming months, by all means let me know! Send me an email at jdooley@district36.org and tell me how your own Area Governor has done something terrific for you!

Jim Dooley, District Governor
"You've Got a Friend in Toastmasters"
